Welcome to the BWMC Website

Welcome to the website of the Bungendore War Memorial Committee (BWMC).  Whilst it has other responsibilities, the BWMC in essence organises commemorative ceremonies, and is responsible for the care and maintenance of the War Memorial as a community asset.

Although it is staffed entirely by volunteers, the BWMC is a committee of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council established under Section 355 of the (NSW) Local Government Act 1993. The BWMC, in light of the amalgamation of the Palarang and Queanbeyan Councils, will continue business as usual to organise relevant services for the community to remember our fallen.

The BWMC enjoys a close relationship with the Canberra City Pipes and Drums (www.ccpd.org.au) who has supported us for many years, especially on ANZAC Days.  Please see the picture above.

Please note the BWMC does not handle bookings for the War Memorial Hall.  Please contact Jill on 6238 1470 if you wish to book the Hall.

BWMC Media Releases:

ANZAC Day 2020 Cancellation

It is with regret that the Bungendore War Memorial Committee (BWMC) must advise the Bungendore Community of the cancellation of this year’s Anzac Day commemorative services due to the Covid-19 Corona virus outbreak and NSW Health requirements.  This will include both the Dawn and Main Service.  The decision to cancel was not taken lightly as the BWMC is very aware of the impact this will have on the Bungendore community and businesses but our hands are tied as we must comply with the NSW Health, Public Health (COVID-19 Mass Gatherings) Order 2020.

As Anzac Day is a day of remembrance of those that have served our Country with some making the ultimate sacrifice, you are more than welcome to go to the Bungendore Memorial on Anzac Day and lay a wreath, poppy or any other memento of remembrance and pay your respects.  Please ensure you adopt the social distancing advice from NSW Health.

The Australian War Memorial will be televising and streaming the closed Dawn Service from the Commemorative Area and Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial at 5.30 am on Anzac Day.  The Bungendore community is encouraged to observe the day at home by watching this service.

Again the BWMC regrets that Anzac Day commemorations have been cancelled, and we hope you all remain healthy and clear of this virus.
